Private by default. Exact by invitation.

Sharing where you are is one of the most personal things you can do with a phone. Every control in the app starts from that. Here they all are, in plain language.

The controls

A level for every friend

Each friend sees you at the level you chose for them: Exact, Nearby, or Hidden. Your closest people can have the pinpoint. Everyone else gets presence without it. Change any of it whenever you want.

Invisible

One tap takes you off the map for everyone, for as long as you like. It hides where you are now and where you have been recently. Nobody is told, nothing is flagged, and we do not ask why.

Hidden zones

Draw a zone around any place, like home or work, and you never appear inside it. The places that are nobody's business stay that way.

Sharing that ends by itself

A trip shares your exact location with that group for the dates you set, then stops on its own. Temporary means temporary, with nothing to remember to switch back.

Block and report

Blocking removes someone from your world immediately and in both directions. Anything shared can be reported and is reviewed. There is no debate to be had.

Delete everything

Delete your location history, or your whole account and everything in it, from inside the app. No email to write, no retention tricks. Gone means gone.

Every one of these lives in the app under Me. Permissions, sharing levels, hidden zones, blocked people, and deletion all sit together in Me › Settings, so you never have to go hunting for the switch that matters.

What we never do

We never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to brokers, not anonymized, not ever. The privacy policy says it in legal words. This page says it in plain ones.
We never run ads. There is nothing on the map to sell your attention with.
We never show you to strangers. There is no discovery, no public profile, no list of people near you. The only people who can see you are friends you accepted.
We never allow one-way watching. Every connection is mutual. You can always see exactly what each friend can see of you, and they can see the same of you.
We never start sharing for you. Nothing widens on your behalf. When sharing does widen, you turned it on, and the app tells you when it ends.

What the app asks permission for

iOS asks before any of this, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings › Proximitii on your phone, or in Me › Settings › Permissions in the app, which shows you where you stand on each one.

  • Location. The map, nearby friends, and your own history. Always Allow is what lets the app tell you a friend is close while your phone is in your pocket. While Using is enough to look at the map.
  • Notifications. A friend is nearby, a friend arrived, a trip went live. Every type can be switched off on its own.
  • Camera, Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband. Only for the Finder, the part that closes the last two hundred feet when you are trying to spot each other in a crowd.
  • Motion. To tell walking from driving from sitting still, so the app can ease off the GPS and save your battery. We do not keep the raw sensor data.
  • Contacts. Only if you choose to invite people you already know. We do not upload your address book.
  • Photos. Reading the date and place stored inside your own photos to fill in where you have been, and adding shots to a shared album if you choose to. The pictures themselves are never uploaded for the history feature.

It would make a terrible tracking app

That is on purpose. Everything is mutual. Everything is visible to the person being seen. Everything can be switched off without telling anyone. Whoever you are worried about, they chose exactly who sees them and how much, and they can see precisely the same in return.
